7 Shades of Red… Lip products

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 7th December you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour red. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve linked my previous posts for Green, Pink and Purple and Blue below. I’ve also posted my favourite red eyeshadows recently.

7shadesofred_lipstick_02

  1. Essence – Long lasting lipstick in 01 Coral Calling
  2. Catrice – Infinite Shine Lip Gloss in 070 Very Very Raspberry
  3. Catrice – Made to Stay Smoothing Lip Polish in 070 Red-Volution
  4. Sleek – Matte Me Ultra Smooth Lip Cream in 434 Party Pink
  5. Lancome – Rouge in Love in 163M Dans ses bras
  6. Illamasqua – Lipstick in Shard
  7. OCC – Lip Tar Metallic in Black Metal Dahlia

What a classic red lips are… everyone has to love the way how red lips make you feel that bit more glamorous and sexy. I’ve chosen a variety of different shades and textures, because honestly, there is just so much to chose from.

The Essence one is a great one for everyday, easy to apply and very moisturising. I like the Catrice lipgloss especially for a natural summery look. Red-volution works great for a night out, it stains the lips and the colour slowly disappears and is easy to re-apply. Although Sleek’s matte lip cream is called Party Pink, to me it is more of a corally red. It stays on well due to the matte formula, but can feel a little dry after a while. Lancome’s Rouge in Love is one of my more expensive lipsticks, but I have to admit that so far I rarely ever wore it, which is a shame. The formula is lovely, it glides on the lips and stays on well. Especially for fall, Shard is one of my favourite colours and has been featured on the blog a couple of times. Black Metal Dahlia is a similar shade, but the metallic effect makes it very special.

What is your favourite red shade?

Zoya – Nail Polish Swatches

zoya_all

Zoya Nailpolish (£10.50/14ml)

About Zoya:

Art of Beauty was founded in 1986 by Zoya and Michael Reyzis. They had a shared vision, which evolved from a small nail salon into a spa focusing on natural nails, skin care and alternative European herbal treatments. (…)

Zoya, originally a classical pianist in Russia, earned her Cosmetology license in 1979 when she and her husband Michael immigrated to the United States. While pianist jobs were limited, the world of cosmetology offered a new profession and a means by which to build a new career. Through Zoya’s hard work, and a demand for quality and healthy, natural ingredients for her clients, it became evident that there was a need for the perfect products. Responding to his wife’s requests. Michael, an advanced chemist, developed and patented unique products such as anti-wrinkle treatments and shampoo and conditioning treatments for the salon & spa. He also created the first working fast drying topcoat and the longest wearing, toxin free natural nail polish, revolutionizing the nail industry. (…)

What I say:

First of all, Zoya has the least toxic nail polishes that I came across so far. They are not only 5-free, vegan and crueltyfree, but from looking at the ingredients on Codecheck they are the least harmful.

I have five of their nail polishes myself and really love most of them. Zoya has an incredible range of colours and finishes and as you can see I have tried different ones from their normal, matte, satin and pixie dust range.

  • Pixie Dust Carter: royal purple with a strong magenta sparkling, matte and textured finish.
  • Satin Brittany:  rose mauve cream in the exclusive Satin (hybrid between matte and glossy) finish.
  • Matte Velvet Posh: Matte Ruby Red Shimmer.
  • Cheri: Rich rose-mauve with warm red undertones and strong golden shimmer.
  • Pippa: ultra-bright, sunny and cheerful medium lemon yellow creme (works well with Neon hues) with a cream finish.

zoya_all_swatches

I love all of the above nail polishes besides Pippa. In comparison to the others, the formula seems to be on the thicker side and I just couldn’t get an even finish with it. That being said, I am a big fan of the matte and satin finish, both of them look really elegant and the formula allows for strike free application. Most nail polishes don’t last on my nails very long without chipping, so I’d say the above usually make three days, which for me is pretty good. Pixie Dust is more of a sand style formula, it has the most beautiful shimmer to it though and lasts a bit better on me than the others. This is why I am generally a fan of sand style nail polish.

Did you try Zoya nail polishes yet? Which one is your favourite?

Ingredients [Codecheck]:

[Carter, Posh] Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Sterikonium Hectolite, Acrylates Copolymer, Styrane / Acrylates Copolymer.

All the eyeshadows below have great quality. Throughout they are very buttery and smooth, which makes them easy to apply. I don’t use the Catrice eyeshadow too often, but when I swatched it I remembered how nice it is. Sleek’s James Brown is another colour that doesn’t get enough love, because it is soo beautiful, yet neglected.

  1. Artdeco – Eyeshadow in Pearl 013
  2. Illamasqua – Powder Eyeshadow in Tango
  3. Catrice – The Sydney Collection: Town Hall
  4. Too Faced – Single Eyeshadow in Dirt Bag

I love brown matte eyeshadows, one of my favourite ones is definitely the Artdeco one from the Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture Collection. I actually have several of the eyeshadows from the limited editions and they are all amazing! Like a Virgin from Too Faced is such a buttery lovely colour, very similar to the P2 one but the quality is soo much better. The MUA palette is very affordable and has a selection of matte eyeshadows with good quality for the price point.

  1. P2 – Matte dream eyeshadow in 180 taupe elegance
  2. Artdeco – Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture in 520 Brunesque
  3. Too Faced – Eye Love Eye Shadow Collection in Like Virgin
  4. Can you believe it? I did all the swatches and have no idea which eyeshadow I used here. Sorry!
  5. Sleek – Au Natural in Bark
  6. MUA Makeup Academy Professional – Ever After Matte Palette in Truffle
  7. Too Faced – Glamour to Go: Dream Edition Brown matte eyeshadow

You might wonder about the selection below, as it includes an eyeshadow and a blush, but I use both of them for my cheeks to contour, therefore I thought this is totally appropriate. 🙂 Illamasqua, Barry M and Makeup Revolution are matte products that I really only use for contouring. Although the Physician’s Formula product is technically a bronzer, I do use it for contouring as well. The other two bronzers I only wear occassionally as I don’t do much bronzing, but they are lovely shades for that purpose!

  1. Sleek – Blush in Antique
  2. Illamasqua – Cream Pigment in Hollow
  3. Makeup Revolution – Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love
  4. Barry M – Chisel Cheeks in Medium Brown
  5. Physician’s Formula – Bronze Organics for Fair Skin
  6. 17 – Instant Glow in Pink Bronze Bronzing Rocks
  7. Too Faced – Glamour to Go: Dream Edition Bronzer

7 Shades of Blue… Eyeliner

07shadesofblue_eyeliner_02

The For You Eyeliner is pretty old and I don’t think the brand even exists anymore, but I used it very often back in the day. Even though it is old it still works well and didn’t dry out. I still sometimes use it on the waterline to brighten up the eye when creating a blue makeup look. The Essence Eyeliner is so beautiful. I already raved about it here. The 2True Liner was a cheap buy when I had to watch my budget. Nevertheless I think it is a decent liner and I really like the bright colour. Bourjois’ Neon Blue is indeed very bright and works well on my water line. Admittedly I don’t really use the liner by The Body Shop, it was a gift that came with a magazine I bought a while back. The only use I have for it at the moment is as lip liner for my Illamasqua lipstick in Disciple. 😀 I really like eyeliners by Gosh, because as their name suggests, they are very velvety and smooth to apply. Beautiful petrol shade with a bit of a sheen to it. Last but not least is Lush’s Liquid Liner, which is one of my favourite eyeliners ever. I hate the packaging, because I would prefer to apply the liner with my own brushes, but the shade is absolutely stunning!

7 Shades of Purple… Eyeshadow

7shadesofpurpleeyeshadow_01

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th July you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour purple. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve previously already showed my 7 favourite lipsticks. See also my previous post on 7 Shades of Green, my 7 Shades of Pink… Lipstick and 7 shades of Pink… Blushes.

  1. Rituals – 4 Color Eye Shadow: Amethyst Collection [2nd from top]
  2. P2 – Metal Eyes Eyeshadow in 060 Lilac Butterfly
  3. Gosh – Effect Powder in Butterfly
  4. Kiko – Colour Sphere 41 Violet Black Melange
  5. Sleek – Bliss in Barcelona [Vintage Romance]
  6. Essence – Loose pigment in 02 Alice had a vision again [Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2, LE]
  7. Sugarpill – Poison Plum

This was so hard, because I love purple eyeshadow and had way too many shades to choose from. But I went for a couple of different shades from matte to shimmery and from pale to very bright. I love the Amethyst Collection by Rituals and one of their colours had to join the selection. P2’s Metal Eyeshadow is a great colour for the corner of the eye or under the lower lashes when creating a purple look. Similarly, I usually use Butterfly under the lower lashes in a purple look or as a highlight in a more nude look. Violet Black Melange is a great crease colour for purple looks. It darkens up the crease and gives some depth. The same goes for Alice had a vision again. Bliss in Barcelona is an allrounder and Poison Plum is a classic purple shadow you shouldn’t miss in your collection.

I’m really happy with this palette as it includes two blushes by Sleek that I haven’t got yet and the colours are really versatile. As always, a palette like this is very handy when traveling or when you don’t want to think about matching your blush and eyeshadows in the morning.

7 Shades of Purple… Lipstick

  1. Collection 2000 – Lock ‘n’ Hold in 6 Twisted Disco
  2. Essence – Long Lasting Lipstick in 09 Wear Berries
  3. Catrice – Velvet Matt Lipstick in C02 Of Royal Blood
  4. Sleek – Matte Me in 431 Fandango Purple
  5. MUA – Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Kooky
  6. Sleek – True Colour Lipstick in Exxxaggerate
  7. OCC – Metallic Lip Tar in Technopagan

I love purple lipstick and I think even my first lipstick ever was purple. 🙂 I don’t very often wear lipgloss (oups yes, a lipgloss sneaked into the lipsticks…) , but I really like this milky soft purple. My go to colour when I want an everyday suitable purple lip is definitely the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick, it is so easy to wear and touch up during the day. You might remember that you have seen the Catrice Of Royal Blood before in my pink lipsticks. First of all, you probably notice that I really like the colour and second of all, it is just that kinda shade that is in between being pink or purple. Fadango Purple is a great matte bright shade that lasts very well. Kooky is the same idea but a darker blue based shade. Exxxaggerate is another matte shade by Sleek which is a lot more vibrant than on the picture. Great for statement lips! And finally OCC’s Technopagan, an absolutely stunning metallic blue based purple that dries down semi-matte. I absolutely love this colours, but I admit I haven’t worn it very often yet, as it takes some effort to put on seamlessly and it wears off unevenly. What are your favourite purple shades?

The oldest blushes are the Manhattan ones from a Limited Edition that was released during the Oktoberfest time in 2011. They are baked and very pigmented, I only need a tiny amount when I use them, and I still do when I want some bright pink cheeks. The Sleek blushes, i reviewed them recently here, are the very bright and shimmery Mirrored Pink from the Aqua Collection and Pomegranate, one of my favourite Sleek blushes. I also recently posted about my two Illamasqua blushes, which last really long on me and are again of bright pink colour. Last but not least my Everyday Minerals Blush in Nick Nack, which is a brilliant everyday blush that is subtle, yet makes you look more refreshed and defined.

  • (1) Everyday Minerals – Mineral Blush in Nick Nack
  • Sleek – Blush in Mirrored Pink 846 (Aqua Collection LE) [now available as part of the Eye & Cheek Palette in Dancing ’til Dusk]
  • (2) Manhattan – Zuckerl Rose 55V (Oktoberfest LE)
  • (3) Illamasqua – Powder Blusher in Hussy [also available as part of the Face Palette in Semblance]
