5stars

What Benecos says:

benecos natural Body Cream love your skin provides your skin with rich moisture and silky smooth texture, gently caring for your skin with organic ingredients of calendula, wild rose, linden flower and burdock.

benecos Natural Body Cream will:

  • Hydrate your skin
  • Soft smooth skin
  • Delicately fragrance your skin
  • Nicely absorbs into your skin

What I say:

I like the texture of Benecos body cream and agree that it is easy to apply and absorbs quickly. The scent was refreshing but not overpowering. As far as I know this product has now been replaced by a new range of Benecos body lotions and I could certainly imagine trying the new lotions they offer. So far I have tried a couple of different Benecos products and have not been let down. They offer great quality for a reasonable price.

What eos says:

Eos Refresh Hand & Body Lotion is a cool, hydrating lift for dry skin. Revive your skin and your senses with the refreshing scent of natural cucumber extract, and the fast-acting moisturisers found in this natural, non-greasy hand and body lotion..

Perfect for normal to dry skin. Eos combined a blend of skin-conditioning oils with cucumber and moisturising shea butter to awaken and energise your beautiful skin anytime, anywhere. They even added oat extract, antioxidants and vitamins C and E to instantly enrich and hydrate your skin, and make it feel soft and replenished long after you apply it.

Benefits:

  • For normal to dry skin types.
  • 90% natural.
  • Paraben-free.
  • Phthalate-free.
  • Lanolin-free.
  • Dye-free.
  • Dermatologist tested.
  • Hypoallergenic.

What I say:

First of all, I do like the packaging, it’s quite handy. Second of all, I don’t like the melon smell it has. I’ve read that others compared it to cucumber as well, but I haven’t noticed that at all. If you read this blog for a while you will know that I am just not the biggest fan of very sweet scents. Other than that the lotion is good, it sinks in quickly and still feels moisturising enough for my dry skin.

IN and OUT – Hand cream #03

botanics boots hand cream

OUT: Boots Botanics – All Bright Hand Cream (£1.93/75ml)

crueltyfree copy

4stars

What Boots says:

This fast absorbing hand cream instantly hydrates dry skin. Moisturising for 48 hours, the light non-greasy formula absorbs quickly to reveal noticeably softer skin.

Active plant extract, Hibiscus contains natural AHAs which mildly exfoliate to help leave skin smoother and brighter.

Our beauty scientists have worked with the world experts in plants science at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (England), to bring you beautiful plant powered skin care that’s proven to work.

Because this product contains alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) which may increase your skins sensitivity to the sun, we recommend using a sun protection and limit sun exposure during and for a week after use of this product.

What I say:

I believe this product is cruelty-free. I am not sure if the whole range is, as some of the products did not include the statement ‘people tested’ on their packaging. I found the following statement online:

Boots Botanics does not use parabens, mineral oils, and have replaced man- made chemicals with natural ingredients as much as possible. This brand is also cruelty free. (Hello Dollface, 2013)

The cream sinks in really quickly and has a lovely smell to it, which reminds me of my beloved Urban Veda Radiance Day Cream. I definitely liked this hand cream and would re-purchase it again. I think it suits very well into the summer time when you want something more lightweight. For the winter month I will look for something thicker and extremely moisturising as I get really dry skin.

What I say:

I love, love, love the smell of this cream! 🙂 It is a bit more nourishing than the Botanics one, which is great for the colder month of the year. So far, I have no complaints and really enjoy using the hand cream.

Superdrug – Lotus Flower & Cherry Blossom Body Butter (£3.99/200ml)

crueltyfree copy vegan copy

What Superdrug says:

This beautiful Lotus Flower and Cherry Blossom Body Butter has a delicate floral scent and a rich, creamy texture which melts quickly into the skin upon application. Enriched with natural Cherry Blossom extract, traditionally renowned for its skin soothing properties and nourishing Lotus Flower extract, this body butter will deeply moisturise and condition the skin, leaving it feeling ultra-soft, smooth and smelling delightful.

What I say:

I like the consistency of this butter, it truly is creamy, very different from the Organic Surge one, which was rather hard. Ingredients wise I am not sure what to make of it, I would prefer to use the Sante body lotion as I feel it is the safer choice, but being on a budget means also looking for cheaper alternatives once in a while. At least I know it is a cruelty free and vegan product.

Lush – Eau Roma Water [£7.95/250g]

crueltyfree copy vegan copy

5stars

What Lush says:

This is an elegant formula that’s suitable for even the most sensitive skins. Rose water will help to calm and reduce redness, whilst lavender water will balance and soften the skin. This was created as a way to hydrate and soothe the skin both gently and effectively. Use it for a quick, refreshing spritz or to remove any traces of makeup or cleanser.

What I say:

I know that some people avoid Methylparaben in their products, but from my research it should be a safe ingredient, at least according is what I found out over at Paula’s Choice. Lush says on their website that “Methylparaben is used to control the growth of bacteria, yeasts and moulds. We use less than half the maximum permitted level to ensure the product is as mild as possible and the skin’s natural microflora is not affected. This low level of use also helps with the bio-degradability of our product and any waste material created during manufacture.”

I used to have a similar spray from The Body Shop called the Vitamin E Face Mist, which I used to like a lot, so I am curious to see if the Eau Roma can convince me just as much and is less drying for my skin than my Urban Veda Toner.

I absolutely loved this toner and it is definitely a product I will buy again. The only reason I didn’t get it just now was my curiosity to try the Boots Botanic one.

Sleek Blushes

Sleek Blushes (£4.49/8g)

What Sleek says:

Our blushers are long lasting and highly pigmented available in a variety of finishes. Each shade glides on smoothly and enables you to create an array of stunning looks. We offer a wide range of shades to complement any skin tone, no matter the occasion.

What I say:

sleekblushes_mirroredpink

Mirrored Pink was part of the Lagoon LE in 2013. It is now available in the Eye and Cheek Palette in Dancing ’til Dusk. I love this shiny pink colour, particularly in spring and summer.

sleekblushes_pomegranate

Pomegranate is probably my favourite blush by Sleek and is part of their standard product range. It is also available as part of the Eye and Cheek palette in See You At Midnight. I would describe it as a mix of pink and red with a slight shimmer to it.

sleekblushes_rosegold

My first Sleek blush and probably also one of the most hyped ones out there is Rose Gold. Many bloggers compared it Nars Orgasm, which I don’t own, but I will link you some comparisons below.

sleekblushes_honour

The Honour blush was part of the 2012 Limited Edition Collection they released during the Olympic Games. It is a brownish red that I personally love to wear in autumn.

Overall I think these blushes are a good option in the drugstore, as they are very affordable and generally also very pigmented. Sleek says they are long lasting, however in my experience they kind of disappear after a while. Other blushes like the ones by Illamasqua or Everyday Minerals last a lot better on me. That being said, I do enjoy using them and think for what they cost they are good quality.

Sleek Blush by 3 (£10.00/20g)

What Sleek says:

The ultimate cheeky palette offering you three times the impact. Includes three complementary shades, each designed with its own distinctive finish, from rich shimmers to intense matte shades.

  • Available in eight unique colour combinations designed to suit all skin tones
  • Each shade can be used alone, or layered for a unique look
  • Each palette has a versatile selection of shades to take your makeup from day to night and keep it on trend from season to season
  • Set in a mirrored compact, ideal for touch-ups throughout the day

What I say:

The above Blush by 3 is the Sugar one, which includes the blushes (1) Turbinado (2) Muscovado and (3) Demerara. My favourite colour out of the three is the one in the middle, which is also the most pigmented one. I sometimes use it as an eyeshadow as well. The two other matte shades are a lot more chalky and take more effort to blend them nicely. Overall, a handy palette if you are traveling because you have several colours to choose from.

Illamasqua Powder Blush (£21.50/4.5g)

What Illamasqua says:

Illuminate, radiate, make your face come alive with the colour and drama of Illamasqua Powder Blusher. Colour-intense and highly pigmented, use it to shade, brighten, enhance and define the shape of your face. Be bold, be daring, be the centre of attention.

What I say:

illamasqua_hussy

Hussy is a beautiful matte, pink blush with a coral touch to it. It is also available in the powder blush duo blush set together with Lover or in the Multi Facette Palette in Semblance that I have reviewed before.

illamasqua_thrust

Thrust is a matte, magenta blush with a purple tone to it. Both blushes are very pigmented and I only pick up a tiny amount of product when applying. This also means that it is very buildable. Both last on me all day long and are certainly of better quality than any drugstore blushes I have ever tried.

They are not the cheapest option when it comes to a nice blush, however, Illamasqua often offers special discounts, which is when I tend to pick up things from their website. Because it is so pigmented, the product will last you a long time though. I am very happy with my powder blushes and would certainly consider to pick up more shades from their selection. I am kind of intrigued by Naked Rose and Disobey.

As a side note, these blushes might NOT be vegan, as some shades can contain Carmine.

Alverde – Vanille Mandarine

What I say

I love this lip balm! It has quite a thick consistency and on other blogs I read before that this was the reason some people did not get along with it. Personally I prefer this formula over traditional chap sticks though. It smells fruity (though I am not sure I could say it smells necessarily like tangerines) and moisturises my lips well. I like to use it under lipstick, making sure to give it some time to sink in before I put colour on top. Only reason I did not repurchase it is the fact it is only available in Germany, and at the moment I don’t have any access to it.

OUT: Lavera Faces Mint – Organic Pore Refining Moisturising Fluid (£10.90)

#crueltyfree #vegan #organic

What Lavera says

The clever combination of Hyaluronic Acid and Organic Mint in the Pore Refining Moisturising Fluid ensures oily complexions feel hydrated without the heavy, greasy feeling. Organic Burdock extract encourages cell regeneration for a replenished effect, whilst gently tackling scars and blemishes. Mineral Zinc Lactate gives skin a matte appearance resulting in a fresh, even complexion.

What I say

I really liked this moisturiser. It has a light mint scent to it and absorbs very quickly and works well under makeup. This was recommended to me when I was looking for a moisturiser that works on blemish prone skin and still moistens the skin. Why don’t I buy it again? Mainly because it is not so easy to get (okay, you can order it online, but sometimes I just like to pick up things when I am browsing a store…) and when I found the amie skincare in my local Waitrose I decided to try something new and give it a go instead. I am definitely happy to use it again in the future though.

After Inked – Tattoo Balm

After Inked

After Inked is a daily skin moisturiser for new and existing tattoos. It can also be used on cosmetic tattoos on the eyes, lips, areola etc as well as post-laser tattoo removal.

What I like about it is the good moisturisation without making the new tattoo become sticky, which I personally find very annoying. It doesn’t really have a particular smell to it. It retails for £14.99, so it is not the cheapest product to use, but I just really like the way it works and the ingredients list, so I am willing to pay a bit more.

Ingredients:

  • Aqua (Water):  Purified water used as a “spreading agent” that helps to distribute the other ingredients evenly over the skin.
  • Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil: Contains vitamins E, C & Beta Carotene. It’s a very potent antioxidant.
  • Glycerin (veg): Natural humectant and emollient. Conditions & moisturizes the skin and it can be used on even the most sensitive skin.
  • Stearic Acid (veg): Adds lubricity to the skin making it smoother.
  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter): Provides improvement to dry skin.
  • Synthetic Beeswax: Emulsifier & nourishing to skin. Alternative to animal-derived beeswax obtained from the honeycomb of virgin bees; respects lifestyle choices (Vegan).
  • Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil: Helps to improve dry skin.
  • Cetyl Alcohol (veg): Natural fatty alcohol used as an emollient and stabilizing agent. It’s Halal.
  • Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil: Rich in vitamins A & C. Fresh tangy smell. Natural alternative to fragrance.
  • Benzyl Alcohol & Dehydroacetic Acid: Preservative; natural alternative to parabens.

Sleek – Eau La La Liner

Sleek Eau La La Liner

I was very excited when Sleek released the Eau La La Liners and immediately bought one in the colour Melba. I was impressed with the swatch, however shortly after I bought it the lead came off. I can still use it, but it is quite annoying, because I have to be careful that the lead stays in the packaging. Though I was dissapointed I thought I give those liners another try and bought one in the colour Cobalt Blue. Unfortunately I have the same issue with it, the lead just fell out immediately after I first opened it. Although I like the idea of the liners that can be used on your eyes and lips and come in a big range of colours, I am not satisfied with the quality of the product.
