Beauty Favourites 2015: Face

During the summer I loved my Honeypie Minerals Foundation, which I purchased the full size of. In the colder months or for a night out I prefer my Rituals Gemstone Foundation. For liquid foundations I’ve been using Boots Botanics – All Bright Radiance Balm as a base for a couple of months now, it gives a nice glow to the skin.

To set my makeup I almost exclusively used MUA’s Pro Base Prime & Conceal Powder, which I actually bought for a Halloween look if I remember correctly. It does a great job though. I mix all the colours and apply it lightly and my makeup stays matte for a while.

A purchase on a whim turned out to be my favourite everyday blush: MUA’s Lolly. A long time favourite of mine, and unfortunately not available anymore, is Catrice’s Multi Colour Blush in Gone With the Wind [Hollywood Fabolous Fourties Limited Edition]. Last year I mentioned my Everyday Minerals’ blushes and they are still products I use on a regular basis.

I think in the last two years, a lot more products have found their way into my makeup routine. Not necessarily on a daily basis, but certainly when I feel like putting on a full face of makeup. When I never seemed to bother with Contouring and Highlighting in the past, I know have a couple of favourites for both categories.

I would say Beauty UK’s Baked Box Halo 3 is my No. 1 highlighter. I also really enjoy Topshop’s Glow Highlighter in Polish and Illamasqua’s Gleam in Mirage. For highlighters cream products work quite well for me. Not so much for contouring though. I have Illamasqua’s Cream Pigment in Hollow, but although the colour is great I just never really reach for it. Instead my current favourite is Makeup Revolution’s Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love, which I use as a contour shade. It is very pigmented and suitable for pale skin.

Beauty Favourites 2015: Lips

In my review last year I mentioned the Essence Long Lasting Lipsticks, which I still love. They are great products for everyday, easily applied, good colour selection and all of that for a small price tag. I wouldn’t say that they are actually long lasting, but that aside I love them and carry them around in my handbag all the time. I’ve recently purchased a new one from their Nude range called Come Naturally. I should probably work on the post I’ve promised last year already. 😉

I am also still loving Catrice’s lip polishes that unfortunately left their range and I have no idea why. If you know of any similar products, please let me know in the comments. Another staple is Illamasqua‘s matte lipstick in Shard, it just wears really well and I love the dark red colour.

I am new to LA Splash Cosmetics, but couldn’t help but follow the hype around their liquid lipsticks, particularly Ghoulish. Though it is quite drying after a while, I really like wearing it as it doesn’t need to be touched up all the time. If I learned anything this year about lipsticks then it is that I don’t want to worry about the colour on my lips all the time. I like products (or a combination of products) that allows me just that: Look good without thinking about it. I’ve just recently ordered two more of their Dia de los muertos collection that I should be showing you soon.

I’ve got two Gosh lip liners now and I think they are great quality and definitely worth a try if you come across them in the drugstore. This year I bought Nougat Crisp, a lovely brownish colour that suits the lipstick Nougat by Gosh perfectly.

EOTDs – June

eotd 14.06.1514.06.2015

In this look I used Products used my Essence Crystal Eyeliner in Opal Rosy Rush and on the waterline the P2 fantastic chrome kajal in luminous quartz. The eyeshadows I used are a mixture of the Au Naturel and Vintage Romance palettes. Under the lower lashes I used Bliss in Barcelona from the latter palette as a colourful highlight.

eotd 19.06.2015

This look used a couple of products by Catrice. As a base I applied the Made to Stay 050 Metall of Honour. In the corner of the eye is the light green from Catrice’s Rumble in the Jungle Quad. Under the lower lashes is OCC’s Loose Colour Concentrate in Slag. On the waterline is the usual, NYX’s Wonder Pencil in WP01 Light. As eyeliner I used Zoeva’s in Good Karma.

eotd 20.06.2015

This look uses the Sleek Au Natural Palette to create a pin up kind of look with a dark and bold winged liner (Essence –  Liquid Eyeliner). NYX’s Wonder Pencil WP01 Light on the water line opens up the eye a bit more.

eotd 27.06.2015

The main parts of this look are the  P2 –  Fantastic Chrome Kajal in 060 Black Granite on my water line and the bright colours of the Sleek Sunset Palette. It was my first ever palette by Sleek and I still love it to this day. Great reddish shades with good pigmentation.

7 Shades of Purple… Lipstick

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th July you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour purple. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. Hopefully I will be able to make another post on eyeshadows ad/or nail polishes. See also my previous post on 7 Shades of Green, my 7 Shades of Pink… Lipstick and 7 shades of Pink… Blushes.

  1. Collection 2000 – Lock ‘n’ Hold in 6 Twisted Disco
  2. Essence – Long Lasting Lipstick in 09 Wear Berries
  3. Catrice – Velvet Matt Lipstick in C02 Of Royal Blood
  4. Sleek – Matte Me in 431 Fandango Purple
  5. MUA – Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Kooky
  6. Sleek – True Colour Lipstick in Exxxaggerate
  7. OCC – Metallic Lip Tar in Technopagan

I love purple lipstick and I think even my first lipstick ever was purple. 🙂 I don’t very often wear lipgloss (oups yes, a lipgloss sneaked into the lipsticks…) , but I really like this milky soft purple. My go to colour when I want an everyday suitable purple lip is definitely the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick, it is so easy to wear and touch up during the day. You might remember that you have seen the Catrice Of Royal Blood before in my pink lipsticks. First of all, you probably notice that I really like the colour and second of all, it is just that kinda shade that is in between being pink or purple. Fadango Purple is a great matte bright shade that lasts very well. Kooky is the same idea but a darker blue based shade. Exxxaggerate is another matte shade by Sleek which is a lot more vibrant than on the picture. Great for statement lips! And finally OCC’s Technopagan, an absolutely stunning metallic blue based purple that dries down semi-matte. I absolutely love this colours, but I admit I haven’t worn it very often yet, as it takes some effort to put on seamlessly and it wears off unevenly. What are your favourite purple shades?

7 Shades of… Green

Until the 8th May you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour green. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. (7) MNY Maybelline – My Shadow Eyeshadow

(1) Catrice – Velvet Matt Eyeshadow in 060 Moss Wanted Colour

I have recently reviewed this eyeshadow as I really am impressed with its texture. It feels incredibly smooth and has a great colour payoff. Great allrounder that works really well as the focus of a makeup.

(2) Sugarpill – Pressed Eyeshadow in Acidberry

I never thought I would like this colour as much as I do, but it is a beautiful bright green shade that works well on its own or as a pop of colour. Amazing colour payoff and a really unusual colour that will be hard to find in the drugstore.

(3) Concrete Minerals – Mineral Eyeshadow in Living Dead

A colour that reminds me of a really nice lawn in summer and I feel this colour is very unique. I do love the Concrete Minerals eyeshadows and I reviewed them previously here on the blog. I find they last very well on me during the day.

(4) Lily Lolo – Mineral Eyeshadow in Cosmopolitan

Although Lily Lolo eyeshadows are not my favourites in general, I really do like this matte green olive shade. Really good colour pay off and you can never go wrong with a good matte eyeshadow.

(5) P2 – Metal Eyes Eyeshadow in 020 Taupe Elephant

Unfortunately, this shade is not available anymore. I have a couple of the P2 Metal Eyes Eyeshadows and really like them. I believe they were replaced by the Metal Black Eyeshadows recently.  Great colour for the corner of the eye or under the eye to make a green makeup pop.

(6) Catrice – Absolute Eye Colour Mono in 410 C’mon Chameleon!

Often compared with Mac’s Club, this eyeshadow indeed is a chameleon and changes from green to brown. These changes of colour work a lot better on a black base.

(7) MNY Maybelline – My Shadow Eyeshadow

This is a pretty old eyeshadow that is not available anymore. The MNY line was very affordable and I have a couple of shades that I really like. I usually use it in the crease of my eyes together with some lighter green eyeshadows.

New In: Catrice Velvet Matt Eyeshadow

Catrice – Velvet Matt Eyeshadow in 60 Moss Wanted Colour (3,99 €)

What Catrice says:

The Velvet Matt Eyeshadows with a new premium texture contain ultra-soft shimmer pigments for a velvety matt finish. Thanks to the silky, highly pigmented formula, the Velvet Matt Eyeshadows practically melt with your skin to create a radiant look.

What I say:

I love the texture of this eyeshadow, it certainly is very smooth and easy to apply. Although I have about a million green eyeshadows, this was absolutely worth the money. 🙂 It glides on well and is easy to blend, however it does have some fall out, so just be careful when applying, e.g. by patting it on. I would love to get some more colours in the future.

crystalliner essence

What I say:

I wanted these two crystal liners for so long, but was never able to find them in a drugstore when I was in Germany. Lucky me when I went to Budapest and finally could get myself some holographic goodness called 06 Opal Rosy Rush and 07 Opal Blue Heaven. On the picture above I swatched them for you on bare skin (very left) and on several eyeshadow sticks to show you their effect. From left to right I swatched it on: Bare Skin, Catrice – Eyebrow Lifter in 010 Lift Me Up, Scotty!, NYX – Jumbo Eye Pencil in #604 Milk, Rimmel – Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in 008 Blackmail, NYX – Jumbo Eye Pencil in #623A Purple Velvet, Gosh – Forever Eyeshadow in 06 Plum, Catrice – Eye Shadow Pen in C04 Exotica [Coolibri LE], Catrice – Eye Shadow Pen in C02 Birds Flying High [Coolibri LE].

I love their holographic effect and think they work well on eyeshadow sticks or even other eyeliners. The only problem I have with them is the application itself. I hate these flimsy brushes they come with as it makes it quite difficult to apply a thin and even line. I tried using an angled brush to pick up the product from the liner and it works better for me. Below you find to EOTDs where I used the liners on top of eyeshadow, respectively on top of a black eyeliner.

By the way, you can by Essence in the UK at Wilko’s and they have a store finder on their website as well if you want to find out if your store stocks their products.

Beauty Favourites 2014

This year I really discovered mineral makeup for myself. Often it works better for me than liquid foundations and lasts a lot longer. I particularly enjoyed using the BM Beauty Foundation in their sample sizes I bought, which I already reviewed for you. My favourite concealer is also from the mineral makeup section and I hope to make a blog post about it for you soon, the Mineral Concealer by Lily Lolo.

This year I fell in love with Everyday Mineral Blushes and bought three overall in the shades Nature’s Sweet Side, Nick Nack (which you can both see above) and Disco Inferno. They are very pigmented and a little product goes a long way. Big plus for me is that they last better on my skin than any other of my blushes, hello Sleek, I am looking at you.

I am still using my Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer, which I think will go off soon. I always liked it but recently it doesn’t extend the longevity of my eyeshadow as much as it used to, but as I said, I think it is due to the product getting old. I found the Concrete Minerals’ Electric Eye Primer to work better to enhance eyeshadows with some shimmer, duo chrome effects or glitter in it.

Concrete Minerals’ Zombie Girl Collection was one of the most used eyeshadow (sets) in my stash this year. You can create lovely natural looks and I think my favourite colours are ‘Blood and Guts’ and ‘Graveyard’. I posted some swatches earlier this year.

I found some great eyeliners in the Zoeva Graphic Eyes (in the picture above from left to right: 01 Female Attraction, 02 Good Karma, 03 Mr. Marvelous and 04 Rock’n’Roll Bride) as they are super creamy to apply but once they have dried they stay in place. The colours are just amazing and I am very tempted to buy some more as they released some new shades late this year.

Another mineral makeup product I really enjoyed this year is the Everyday Minerals’ Mineral Eyeliner in Smokey. Back in the day my favourite eyeliner used to be Maybelline Liner Express, I really loved the felt tip, but now I am quite happy with my alternative. I also found a liner by P2 last week or so, which has a similar applicator to the Maybelline one, so we shall see if it wins me back next year. Find below some looks where I used the Everyday Mineral Eyeliner.

I definitely loved my Catrice Lip Polish in Megan Fuchsia. I liked its effect so much that I bought another colour recently called Red-volution. It has an amazing finish that I can only describe as wet-looking. Once it dried off a little bit you are left with a stain on your lips. Therefore it is great to wear everyday because it does not need much touch ups at all. The texture and finish reminds me of Yves Saint Laurent’s Glossy Stains, though I actually prefer the ones by Catrice, not to mention that they are a lot more affordable.

For matte lips, I really do look Illamasqua lipsticks, and my absolute favourite colour is called Shard, a dark plum kind of colour that applies well and stays on for quite some time. Catrice has some nice lipsticks with a matte finish as well by the way, this year I loved the Velvet Matt Lip Colour in ‘Pink Punk’ and ‘Of Royal Blood’ from their Rocking Royals Limited Edition.

Another great find this year are the Essence Longlasting Lipsticks. They are great lipsticks for everyday use as they have a nice selection of wearable shades that feel great on your lips. And although they are very moisturising they still last well on the lips and can be applied without much effort on the go.

I have posts planned on my Essence Longlasting Lipsticks and Illamasqua Lipsticks, so I will try to post them soon so you can find more information and swatches about my favourite lipsticks. Below some swatches of the above mentioned lipsticks:

  1. Illamasqua – Lipstick in Shard
  2. Catrice – Velvet Matt Lip Colour in  Of Royal Blood [Rocking Royals LE]
  3. Catrice – Velvet Matt Lip Colour in Pink Punk [Rocking Royals LE]
  4. Essence – Longlasting lipstick in Coral Calling
  5. Essence – Longlasting lipstick in Wear Berries
