Beauty Favourites 2015: Face

face1

During the summer I loved my Honeypie Minerals Foundation, which I purchased the full size of. In the colder months or for a night out I prefer my Rituals Gemstone Foundation. For liquid foundations I’ve been using Boots Botanics – All Bright Radiance Balm as a base for a couple of months now, it gives a nice glow to the skin.

To set my makeup I almost exclusively used MUA’s Pro Base Prime & Conceal Powder, which I actually bought for a Halloween look if I remember correctly. It does a great job though. I mix all the colours and apply it lightly and my makeup stays matte for a while.

A purchase on a whim turned out to be my favourite everyday blush: MUA’s Lolly. A long time favourite of mine, and unfortunately not available anymore, is Catrice’s Multi Colour Blush in Gone With the Wind [Hollywood Fabolous Fourties Limited Edition]. Last year I mentioned my Everyday Minerals’ blushes and they are still products I use on a regular basis.

I think in the last two years, a lot more products have found their way into my makeup routine. Not necessarily on a daily basis, but certainly when I feel like putting on a full face of makeup. When I never seemed to bother with Contouring and Highlighting in the past, I know have a couple of favourites for both categories.

I would say Beauty UK’s Baked Box Halo 3 is my No. 1 highlighter. I also really enjoy Topshop’s Glow Highlighter in Polish and Illamasqua’s Gleam in Mirage. For highlighters cream products work quite well for me. Not so much for contouring though. I have Illamasqua’s Cream Pigment in Hollow, but although the colour is great I just never really reach for it. Instead my current favourite is Makeup Revolution’s Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love, which I use as a contour shade. It is very pigmented and suitable for pale skin.

Beauty Favourites 2015: Eyes

Long time staples in my make up routine are the mascaras by Essence. They are really affordable but great quality. This year I loved the maximum definition volume mascara as a base and then topped it with the i love extreme crazy volume mascara, as you can see in some of my eye looks from this year below.

My favourite eyebrow products this year were by Gosh, namely the Eye Brow Pencil in Grey Brown and Defining Brow Gel Clear. Sometimes I mix it up and go back to brow powder, but most mornings I was happy to have my pencil at hand as it was way quicker.

Two more staples in my makeup routine are the NYX’s Wonder Pencil in WP01 Light, which works great on the waterline to make your eyes look slightly bigger and more awake, and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer to make eyeshadows stay on longer.

My favourite eyeliners are still Zoeva’s Graphic Eyes. A great colour selection, very smooth in application yet it stays in place all day. I purchased another colour this year called Opulence, a wonderful red liner. My go-to black eyeliner however is the Liquid Eyeliner by Essence.

I finally bought myself the Sleek – Oh So Special palette that I have been eyeing for ages and have not regretted it a bit. Everyday colours with great pigmentation.

Beauty Favourites 2015: Lips

lips.png

In my review last year I mentioned the Essence Long Lasting Lipsticks, which I still love. They are great products for everyday, easily applied, good colour selection and all of that for a small price tag. I wouldn’t say that they are actually long lasting, but that aside I love them and carry them around in my handbag all the time. I’ve recently purchased a new one from their Nude range called Come Naturally. I should probably work on the post I’ve promised last year already. 😉

I am also still loving Catrice’s lip polishes that unfortunately left their range and I have no idea why. If you know of any similar products, please let me know in the comments. Another staple is Illamasqua‘s matte lipstick in Shard, it just wears really well and I love the dark red colour.

I am new to LA Splash Cosmetics, but couldn’t help but follow the hype around their liquid lipsticks, particularly Ghoulish. Though it is quite drying after a while, I really like wearing it as it doesn’t need to be touched up all the time. If I learned anything this year about lipsticks then it is that I don’t want to worry about the colour on my lips all the time. I like products (or a combination of products) that allows me just that: Look good without thinking about it. I’ve just recently ordered two more of their Dia de los muertos collection that I should be showing you soon.

I’ve got two Gosh lip liners now and I think they are great quality and definitely worth a try if you come across them in the drugstore. This year I bought Nougat Crisp, a lovely brownish colour that suits the lipstick Nougat by Gosh perfectly.

Skincare Favourites 2015

Like last year I’ve been testing a lot of new skincare brands and products. In this post I will highlight some old favourites and new found loves.

For ages now I have been using Lush’s 9 To 5 Cleansing Lotion to remove my makeup and I can still say that I love it. I’ve recently bought an Alverde product for a change, but I already know that once it is used up, I will go back to my long time staple 9 to 5. I am also still using my Purechimp – Body Cream for dry areas on my body, like my chins or feet. By the way, they’ve recently also added a shampoo bar to their line.

I found an amazing day cream this year, namely the Radiance Day Cream by Urban Veda. I first got a sample, which made me buy the full size. I love everything about it, the scent, the consistency, the way it moisturises my skin without making it greasy… I could go on, but instead I highly recommend you to try one of their products yourself.

A brand that I’ve known for a long time but only discovered for myself this year is Benecos. Two of my favourite products I’ve tried from them are the Natural Melissa Shower Gel and their Apricot & Elderflower Natural Hand Cream. I like their affordable prices and good ingredients. Further, I am very picky when it comes to scented products, but everything by Benecos so far worked really well for me.

Another great bargain this year comes from Boots and is their Boots Botanics – All Bright Hand Cream. The Boots Botanics line has some gems along them, the hand cream being one of them. I am currently also using their Rosewater Toning Spritz, which is a great product, yet I preferred Lush’s Eau Roma Water for my skin type.

If you are looking for a drugstore body lotion I can recommend the Original Source – Skin Quench Body Lotion: Peach & Apricot Oil which is not too expensive and a great moisturiser. If I don’t get the chance to order a lotion online in advance, this skin quench is my go-to. If I do order, Sante’s Bodylotion Goji Power is also a very affordable option and a product I will happily buy again.

2015 is also the year when I discovered deodorant creams for myself. I’ve heard so much about them that I wanted to see what all the hype is about. I bought Schmidt’s Deodorant in Cedarwood + Juniper, which I really enjoyed. Just recently I purchased a sample of the Natural Deo Company ‘s Clean Deodorant Balm and it works great. There are some more alternatives to be tried in 2016 and I am looking forward to it.

I’ve recently re-purchased an old favourite of mine by Alverde: their Cellulite Serum Gel. It states ‘new’ on the packaging, but I used to buy this years ago and was gutted when they didn’t stock it anymore. In the meantime they had a body oil for the same purpose, but I never liked it. The gel smells amazing and I just love the consistency, slightly sticky after being applied, very moisturising and cooling on the skin. Now, it is up to you if you believe anti-cellulite products actually work, but I simply enjoy using this gel, no matter what.

Overall, a good year for my skincare routine. I’ve found some great products that will stay in my routine and that I can switch in between, depending on my mood and needs.

NOTD – 13.09.2015

I found these beauties at TK Maxx. When they first came out in 2013 I have been eyeing them and considered getting them. For some reason I never bought them, but when I saw them for £3.00 I could not resist this bargain. And I am so happy I got them. They lasted almost a week without chipping on my nails, which for me is unheard of. Most nailpolishes will have show some signs of wear after 2 days, if I am lucky 4 days.

notd - kiko sandstyle

These nail polishes are an old time favourite of mine. I love the look and feel of the sand style and it also lasts well on my nails. These ones I think I have shown on the blog before. They are from Kiko and the bright colours are great for summer.

EOTDs – June

eotd 14.06.1514.06.2015

In this look I used Products used my Essence Crystal Eyeliner in Opal Rosy Rush and on the waterline the P2 fantastic chrome kajal in luminous quartz. The eyeshadows I used are a mixture of the Au Naturel and Vintage Romance palettes. Under the lower lashes I used Bliss in Barcelona from the latter palette as a colourful highlight.

eotd 19.06.2015

19.06.2015

This look used a couple of products by Catrice. As a base I applied the Made to Stay 050 Metall of Honour. In the corner of the eye is the light green from Catrice’s Rumble in the Jungle Quad. Under the lower lashes is OCC’s Loose Colour Concentrate in Slag. On the waterline is the usual, NYX’s Wonder Pencil in WP01 Light. As eyeliner I used Zoeva’s in Good Karma.

eotd 20.06.2015

20.06.2015

This look uses the Sleek Au Natural Palette to create a pin up kind of look with a dark and bold winged liner (Essence –  Liquid Eyeliner). NYX’s Wonder Pencil WP01 Light on the water line opens up the eye a bit more.

eotd 27.06.2015

27.06.2015

The main parts of this look are the  P2 –  Fantastic Chrome Kajal in 060 Black Granite on my water line and the bright colours of the Sleek Sunset Palette. It was my first ever palette by Sleek and I still love it to this day. Great reddish shades with good pigmentation.

EOTD – May ’15
