Full face using only highlighters

A couple of videos popped up on Youtube recently for the ‘Full face using only highlighters’ challenge. Some of them are so hilarious I had to share them with you. Enjoy watching!

7 Shades of… Green

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th May you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour green. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. Previously there was a 7 Shades of… post and one on 7 Shades of… Orange.

(1) Catrice – Velvet Matt Eyeshadow in 060 Moss Wanted Colour

I have recently reviewed this eyeshadow as I really am impressed with its texture. It feels incredibly smooth and has a great colour payoff. Great allrounder that works really well as the focus of a makeup.

(2) Sugarpill – Pressed Eyeshadow in Acidberry

I never thought I would like this colour as much as I do, but it is a beautiful bright green shade that works well on its own or as a pop of colour. Amazing colour payoff and a really unusual colour that will be hard to find in the drugstore.

(3) Concrete Minerals – Mineral Eyeshadow in Living Dead

A colour that reminds me of a really nice lawn in summer and I feel this colour is very unique. I do love the Concrete Minerals eyeshadows and I reviewed them previously here on the blog. I find they last very well on me during the day.

(4) Lily Lolo – Mineral Eyeshadow in Cosmopolitan

Although Lily Lolo eyeshadows are not my favourites in general, I really do like this matte green olive shade. Really good colour pay off and you can never go wrong with a good matte eyeshadow.

(5) P2 – Metal Eyes Eyeshadow in 020 Taupe Elephant

Unfortunately, this shade is not available anymore. I have a couple of the P2 Metal Eyes Eyeshadows and really like them. I believe they were replaced by the Metal Black Eyeshadows recently.  Great colour for the corner of the eye or under the eye to make a green makeup pop.

(6) Catrice – Absolute Eye Colour Mono in 410 C’mon Chameleon!

Often compared with Mac’s Club, this eyeshadow indeed is a chameleon and changes from green to brown. These changes of colour work a lot better on a black base.

(7) MNY Maybelline – My Shadow Eyeshadow

This is a pretty old eyeshadow that is not available anymore. The MNY line was very affordable and I have a couple of shades that I really like. I usually use it in the crease of my eyes together with some lighter green eyeshadows.

Horror TAG

The toughest question right at the start… I assume that Halloween movie here refers to any kind of horror movie?  I’ve seen so many horror flics over the years that I probably will forgot about some that I really enjoyed… So where shall I begin?

The Shining is certainly in my list of favourite horror movies, a classic that doesn’t need gore to be creepy. One of the most gruesome ones I’ve seen must be Martyrs. I really think The Descent is scary, especially because it is so dark and you kind of feel claustrophobic watching it.

In terms of vampire movies, I really enjoyed watching 30 Days of Night, although the story might not be the most original one, the vampires are actually scary and the imagery is amazing. Rec is a pretty good Spanish zombie movie if you ask me.

The first Hellraiser is a must watch, the sequels I didn’t really enjoy. You can never go wrong with some of the classics, like the first Halloween movie, Carrie, Psycho and so on…

And when it comes to horror series, my favourite is American Horror Story Season 2: Asylum. Very disturbing.

Well, as you can see, I can’t really decide on one…

Well, I think thats a bit of a stupid question to be honest, because it would really depend in which movie you are in, right? Let’s put it that way: I’ve watched so many horror movies that I would hope I have enough knowledge how to get rid of any kind of monster, zombie or supernatural being to survive the movie. 😉

Where I come from we don’t celebrate Halloween, so it is only in recent years that I took part in Halloween parties, but only because I really like to dress up with scary costumes.

I quite like the one I wore last year. It wasn’t any movie character or anything in particular, but I wore a black dress and head scarf, so I guess it looked a bit like a nun. Then I put in some white contacts and used a lot of fake blood for bloody tears.

Usually by decorating the flat, though this year I haven’t done anything like that. If I go to a party I would also consider doing some food that is decorated scarily.

Skulls. I used to have really nice fairy lights with little skulls on it, but I would certainly put up some spiderwebs as well and orange napkins, that kind of thing.

I guess the fact they I don’t particularly like display dummies is rather unusual?

vampire zombie

Hmm, I think I’ll have to go with vampires, because I always loved watching vampire movies (30 Days of Night, Let The Right One In) and series (Buffy, True Blood), though there are some really amazing zombie movies out there as well.

werewolf images

Werewolves! I do prefer them over any ghost movie or story. I’ve recently watched Dog Soldiers, which was really good and more for a classic An American Werewolf in London is really worth seeing.

270px-1572 it

That’s a tough one… After watching It by Stephen King I’ve never looked at clowns the same way again. I do have this weird things about dolls though and display dummies creep the shit out of me, so I think I will go for creepy dolls here… 🙂

No, I don’t.

The Perfect Palette [TAG]

I really like this tag, I find it very interesting to see what palettes other people use and like the most. I have a small collection of palettes, most of them from Sleek, but I am also a big fan of the Too Faced palettes. With the 10 questions below I explored my stash and really enjoyed putting this post together. If you wanna see more Perfect Palette Tags, check out these posts:

1. Best Packaging

Too Faced - In Your Dreams

Too Faced – In Your Dreams (Dream Edition)

Do I really have to explain this? Just look at the picture… 🙂 I guess this can be called kitsch already, which I am normally not a fan of, but this packaging design is just beautiful. By the way, the inner life includes eyeshadows, blushes and lip glosses that are all great quality. I’m also a fan of the instructions Too Faced provides so that makeup newbies have some help how to use their new product.

2. Best Color Payoff

Sleek - Vintage Romance

Sleek – Vintage Romance

I have several brands I generally like for their colour payoff, namely Artdeco, Inglot and TooFaced. However, this Sleek Palette has a a great colour payoff, especially if you consider that it only costs £7.99 and therefore is a lot cheaper than the alternative brands I mentioned before. I think this Limited Edition is definitely worth its money, particularly if you like purple tones like me.

3. Most Versatile

Sleek Shangri La

Sleek – Respect [Shangri-La Collection]

For me this palette offers quite a variety of eye makeups, as I do like to wear neutrals and orange tones on my eyes on a regular basis. Probably doesn’t work for all eye colours, but with my green-brown eyes this colour selection works pretty well.

4. Best for Traveling

Too Faced - Glamour To Go

Too Faced – Glamour to Go (Dream Edition)

I love this palette for traveling as it includes almost everything you need to create a complete look. Further, it is quite small and doesn’t take up much space. The quality of Too Faced products as always surprised me and the the eyeshadows are super soft and easy to blend. See more of this palette at Blush Over Done.

5. Biggest Regret

Catrice - The Sydney Collection

Catrice – The Sydney Collection (Eye and Cheek Palette)

Luckily I found this palette in the sales section and didn’t pay full price as I am not super happy with it. I like the idea of having palettes for different cities and the design is nice too. Overall however, the palette is a bit bulky, but even more importantly the eyeshadows are not as pigmented as I would have wished. The colour selection is nice and I still use it once in a while, but if I would have to choose again, I would not buy it anymore. See some swatches over at Frau Kirschvogel.

6. Best Color Names

Too Faced - In Your Dreams

Too Faced – In Your Dreams (Dream Edition)

From what I’ve read online, I think that The Balm seems to have quite extraordinary and funny names. I don’t own any of their palettes, so looking at the ones in my stash the ‘In Your Dreams’ palette drew my attention on it again. The names of the eyeshadows suit the topic of the design quite well. Recent Sleek palettes have also been a bit more creative in the naming department.

7. Least Used

MUA Matte Palette

MUA – Matte Palette

I bought it for Halloween, as I thought it might be useful to have some matte colours handy, cheap ones that is, which I wouldn’t mind sharing with people coming over for our party. 😉 I used it for my halloween look, but ever since haven’t gotten around to use it again, so maybe it will get some more love in the future, as the shadows itself were actually not too bad.

8. Most Used

Sleek Au Naturel

Sleek – Au Naturel

This palette is also quite handy when traveling, especially for work when I am doing more natural looks. Unfortunately, my palette by now looks well loved, as all the traveling left its traces, and some of the eyeshadows are now in crumbles. Anyways, good for every day looks, thus probably the palette I used the most.

9. Most Loved

Rituals Amethyst

Rituals – Amethyst Collection

I just love these purple shades and how easily they glide on. See also some swatches in my previous post about the palette. When I first saw it I tried to tell myself I don’t need anymore purple eyeshadows, but some time later I could not resist anymore. Actually, I also bought the Rituals Duo Eyeshadow in Ameythst Impression with very similar colours.

10. Desert Island

Sleek Sunset

Sleek – Sunset

I know, I know, probably I should choose one of the palettes that is the most used and most loved, but honestly… stuck on a nice island I want to have some bright colours that can compete with the beauty of the water and the sun. So, without any question, it has to be Sleek’s Sunset Palette. It is definitely a go-to palette in summer when I feel like having a bright/red look.

7 deadly sins of makeup tag

1) GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?

I guess most expensive that must be either my YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Lip (about £22.50/6ml) followed by the Lancome Rouge in Love lipstick (£21/4.2ml). Cheapest on the other hand I think must be the MUA nail polish (for £1.00/6.2ml) I own and the 2True Twist’n’Line Eye Definer (£1.99).

(Left: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Lip in No. 7 Right: Lancome Rouge in Love lipstick in 163M)

(Left: 2True Twist’n’Line Eye Definer in No. 15 Aquamarine and No. 4 Emerald Green Right: MUA nail polish in Bright Coral)

2) WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with? What product has been the hardest to get?

I would say I have a love/hate relationship with Sleek’s Eau La La Liners, as I really like their concept, but the two that I have are faulty and very hard to use as the lead comes out. Nevertheless, I try using them once in a while, as I like the colours that I bought.

(Sleek’s Eau La La Liners in Cobalt Blue and Melba)

I like the Catrice products, which are reasonably priced and often of good quality. Only problem is that in Scotland these products are not available. In particular I think here of the Hollywood Fabolous Fourties Limited Edition, where I made my mum hunt for it and send me the products. I have to say I do not regret it, as all of the products she sent me are part of my favorite ones, like the blush that I showed in the Colours of the Rainbow Tag.

(From left to right: Velvet Lip Colour #02 Holly Rose Wood and #03 Marlene’s Favourite, Ultimate Nail Lacquer in #03 Marlene’s Favourite and the multicolour blush in #01 Gone With The Wind)

3) GLUTTONY: What are your most delicious beauty products?

I really like the smell of my Alverde loose powders and my MUA lipgloss. Generally I am not a big fan of products that smell very intense, especially if it is a very artificial smell. I once bought a lipgloss by Calvin Klein and I could not stand it for a second on my lips.

(Left: Alverde’s Loose Powders Right: MUA lipgloss in Shade 4)

4) SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

Lipgloss! I hate re-applying it and generally simply prefer a lipstick over a gloss, so my little collection just waits for its time to shine. 😉

5) PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

I would say lipstick or concealer. I know many answer with mascara, but I honestly could well live without it, although I enjoy wearing it for a more dramatic look. I do have rather dark under eye circles so I always use concealer, but on the other hand I love how putting on lipstick can change the way you feel and look so quickly. I think I would choose lipsticks as it gives me more of a boost and I am always looking forward to choosing a colour for the day.

6) LUST: Which item is at the top of your beauty wish list?

I would like to try out some of the Hourglass products, especially the Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick and the Ambient Lighting Powder. They are not the cheapest products and as I don’t really need them I successfully retained myself from buying them for now. I would not mind receiving them as a gift though. 🙂

7) ENVY: What makeup product/look is great on others but not on yourself?

Well I generally don’t really care if others would say something suits me or not. I wear what I feel like and express myself through makeup. Personally  I think blonde hair doesn’t really suit me (and yes, I’ve tried), so does that count?image

Colours of the Rainbow Tag

Lancôme – Rouge in Love Lipstick in #163M Dans ses bras

This lipstick glides on nicely and for not being matte and super drying the shade actually stays on for quite a while. There are many interesting shades in the Rouge in Love series, however I am trying to stick to cruelty-free products only, therefore I think I would not re-purchase it.

Catrice – Multi Coloured Blush in #01 Gone With The Wind [Hollywood’s FABULOUS 40ties LE]

I am in love with this blush! My mom got it for me and ever since it is one of my favorite ones. It is very pigmented, but if applied carefully it gives a lovely, healthy glow to the skin. This is definitely my go to blush for any natural looking makeup. It was part of the Limited Edition Hollywood’s FABULOUS 40ties from Catrice, so it is not available anymore, otherwise I would totally recommend bying this blush.

MUA – Power Pout in Justify

Yet another LipSTICK you will say, and yes, you are right. But this MUA lipstick is really affordable and I think it is a nice sheer orangy colour, which is great for everyday use. It doesn’t last forever as it is more of a lip balm, but then again, that is to be expected, right?

MUA – Lip Gloss in Shade #04

I am not sure if these lip glosses are still available or not, but this is already my second one. It smells nice, not too intense, and has a lovely sheer and glossy effect with a slight orange hint.

Miss Sporty – Clubbing Colours Nail polish in Popcorn

Super affordable brand that you can buy at Superdrug. I like the wide brush the nail polishes come with and I was looking for a nice, pale yellow for a while before I found it in Popcorn. It applies rather thickly, so you have to be careful not to use too much colour, but besides that it is quite a good quality and lasts on my nails for a few days with a top coat.

Too Faced – Galaxy Glam Baked Eyeshadow in Moon Beam

I think this must be my favorite green eyeshadow ever. Especially applied over Catrice’s Cream Eyeshadow Metall of Honor as a base, this gem really starts shining and showing you all its facets!

Illamasqua – Lipstick in Apocalips

This is definitely a statement colour and not everyone will love it, but I think it just looks fantastic! If you need some ideas how you could wear it, have a look at LetzMakeup’s video.

P2 – Loose Eyeshadow in #050 Barcelona [sun city LE]

This is a super vibrant, shimmery blue shade that is perfect for summer. Again, I tend to use this as a bold eyeliner in summer, when the rest of the makeup is rather simple. Easy to work with and very pigmented in my opinion. Unfortunately not available anymore, as it was part of a limited edition in 2012. I have two more colours from this edition, which I like to use in summer a lot as well. Check some swatches over at Beauty Addicted.

P2 – fantastic chrome kajal in #020 – wild amethyst

I love this colour. Quite a shiny purple that I like to wear with purple eyeshadows, usually on the lower lashline. It doesn’t last the whole day, but it is affordable and therefore the quality is okay.

MUA – Matte Eyeshadow in Shade #18

I adore this colour, it is a really vibrant, matte, purple shade. Unfortunately I think it isn’t the easiest shadow to apply. I like to use it as eyeliner, but you will have to use several layers and still the colour is not as vibrant as in the packaging.

Bourjois – Magic Nail Polish Remover

I know not everyone sees a point in these pots for removing nail polish, but unless I am wearing glitter polish or something similar, this is just a very quick and easy way to remove nail polish. I change the colours of my nails a lot more since I have this easy way of removing it again.

Kiko – Nail Lacquer in #290 Dark Magenta

One of my all time favourite nail polishes. I just love pink and this nail polish applies super smooth and doesn’t chip too easily. Overall, if you are looking for a nice magenta: Check out Kiko’s #290!

Essence – Nail Art Special Effect Topper in #02 circus confetti

Lovely and very affordable nail art topper with multicolour glitter in it. I especially love to wear it on top of black (you can see how that looks like over at Pinkmelon), but obviously you can get creative here!

Would you rather..? TAG

And I found another tag through Youtube, that I liked. The “Would you rather” – Tag with 14 questions.

1.) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

Palettes and eyeshadows I guess… with the rest you can still make some decent makeup look and maybe smudge the eyeliner, so you feel like having eyeshadow on.

2.) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Chop off my hair. I mean, it will grow back and in the past I had rather short hair before, so I don’t really mind that. And overall, I just need to have a cut once in a while, otherwise my hair drives me crazy!

3.) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Hmm… I think a pink cheek. I am not sure, but I think I wear more pink blush than other ones, so I could probably live with that.

4.) If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Okay, I really don’t know how to answer that. Obviously I am into makeup and spend way more money on it than the average person. But clothes are kind of important and for $1000 you could really update your wardrobe… I pretend now I would buy clothes, but if I add up the expenses of the last year I am sure I spent more on cosmetics than clothes… 😀

5.) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Eyeliner as lipstick. I don’t think that the consistency of lipsticks works so well on the eyes. I am sure it would be to smeary and not last very well. Eyeliners however can be used with a lip balm and be a perfect replacement for a lipstick. No wonder there are many two in one products that can be used as eye- and lip liner.

6.) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

I go for Sephora. I like to try out different brands and products, so being limited to MAC would annoy me after a while. Also, as I am currently trying to buy more cruelty-free products, I think Sephora would be the better choice for me.

7.) Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

One eyeshadow color. I need to change my lippies and adapt them to my mood, my clothes, the seasons… With a nice nude eyeshadow you could wear all of these without any problem.

8.) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in winter. I hate sweating, therefore freezing in winter sounds more appealing to me. 😉

9.) Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Dark nails! That one was easy. I like dark reds or even black nail polish, so in case I would have to decide this is definitely my go to colour. As much as I like bright nails, the dark ones suit better my style most of the days.

10.) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

Gosh, these questions are really difficult to answer. For this one, I would decide to give up my favourite eye product. I love my lipsticks and would rather wear it with no eye makeup or something less exciting than usual than having a brilliant eye makeup without some lovely lip product.

11.) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Hmm, tough one, I guess a messy bun. I think that is what do most days anyways, so I could totally live with that.

12.) Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

I am addicted to nail polish! I would happily throw away all my lip glosses anytime if I can keep my nail polish collection. I mean, there are still lipsticks and lipliners and… 🙂

13.) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

I guess the latter. I feel I would look to weird not having any eyebrows at all.

14.) Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Well, as you have read above, I am addicted to nail polish. Having no makeup at all however or only nail polish is really difficult. I think in this case I would go for makeup as I like to use it to make me feel better when I need to hide some imperfections. I think makeup can make such a big change to a face, even if you are just going for a natural, healthy glowing look. Good-bye nail polishes. 😦

Beauty things I suck at

On Sharon’s channel I saw the “Beauty Things I Suck At” Video, which was really funny. I don’t know where the tag originated, but there are loads more videos to be found on Youtube. So now I decided to make my own non-video version of the tag. 🙂

Plucking my eyebrows

I do pluck my eyebrows, however only a little bit, as first of all, I find it painful, and second of all, I feel that my hair is just stubborn. I like thick and natural eyebrows, but there are always this few hairs that are out of place but it seems impossible to get rid of them!

You can find a Brows 101 at The Beauty Department.

Applying false lashes

I know, I know… there are many tutorials explaining how easy it is to apply lashes (see Beautylish for example). I also bought some that are self-adhesive so that I don’t have to bother applying the glue first. Then I bought this Bourjois Lash Tweezers, but still… I am completely incapable of applying them properly and usually I give up quickly, because I get too impatient with myself. 🙂

Styling my hair

I just cannot make a proper hairstyle, no matter how many times I watch tutorials. Even the easiest tricks seem not to work on my hair, or maybe I am just having two left hands. On a daily basis I therefore usually just put my hair into a simple knot in the back of my head.

Bebexo has some really nice hair tutorials on Youtube. Also on the Pixiwoo Madness channel you will find a new series called Super Hair Sunday, which are really nice.

Washing my makeup brushes

Ever since I started using brushes to apply makeup I have started a small collection. One of the reasons why this is collection is ever growing is that I hate washing them! The more brushes I have, the longer in between I have to do a washday. Well, at least in theory this solves my problem, until I realise once again, that this approach obviously means I have to wash more and more brushes each time… *sigh*
