Beauty Favourites 2015: Eyes

Long time staples in my make up routine are the mascaras by Essence. They are really affordable but great quality. This year I loved the maximum definition volume mascara as a base and then topped it with the i love extreme crazy volume mascara, as you can see in some of my eye looks from this year below.

My favourite eyebrow products this year were by Gosh, namely the Eye Brow Pencil in Grey Brown and Defining Brow Gel Clear. Sometimes I mix it up and go back to brow powder, but most mornings I was happy to have my pencil at hand as it was way quicker.

Two more staples in my makeup routine are the NYX’s Wonder Pencil in WP01 Light, which works great on the waterline to make your eyes look slightly bigger and more awake, and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer to make eyeshadows stay on longer.

My favourite eyeliners are still Zoeva’s Graphic Eyes. A great colour selection, very smooth in application yet it stays in place all day. I purchased another colour this year called Opulence, a wonderful red liner. My go-to black eyeliner however is the Liquid Eyeliner by Essence.

I finally bought myself the Sleek – Oh So Special palette that I have been eyeing for ages and have not regretted it a bit. Everyday colours with great pigmentation.

7 Shades of Red… Eyeshadow

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 7th December you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour red. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve linked my previous posts for Green, Pink and Purple and Blue below.

  2. Sleek – iDivine Eyeshadow Palette in Sunset – Top row 2nd from left
  3. Sleek – iDivine Eyeshadow Palette in Sunset – Bottom row 2nd from left
  4. P2 Sun City [LE] – Be electric! loose eyeshadow in 040 N.Y.
  5. Inglot – Freedom System Eyeshadow in 382 Matte
  6. essence pigments – 13 paparedzzi
  7. Sugarpill – Pressed eyeshadow in Love +

I love red eyeshadows! When I was going for more rusty tones in the past like the ones from the Sleek Sunset Palette or the P2 loose eyeshadow, I have started to also really enjoy the boldness of a good matte red eyeshadow, such as Sugarpill’s Love+ and Inglot’s #382. The only problem I have with almost any red any eyeshadow is that they stain. It is pretty tough to remove them and I recommend to keep a good eye makeup remover at hand.

Illamasqua – Pure pigments [Updated]

illamsqua_purepigments

Illamasqua – Pure Pigment (£17.00/1.3g)

What Illamasqua says:

Made to be played with. A metallic, high-shine, pure-colour powder that highlights eyes, cheeks and brows. Mix with eye shadow, blusher or use it on its own to intense effect. Bring out your bold side.

Pure Pigment can be applied dry or wet for a bolder colour pay-off. To intensify the colour, apply over a cream texture, as this will hold the colour in place and amplify it. Alternatively mix with Sealing Gel and apply using a fine brush for a shimmering liquid eye liner. When applied with a long bristle brush, Pure Pigment can also be used as a highlighter anywhere on the eyes, face and body.

What I say:

Lovely colours, my personal favourite is Static as it is very versatile. The white base has some blue and pinkish sheen to it. Great eyeshadow to highlight the inner corner of the eye or get some duo-chrome effects on top of other darker eyeshadows. As with most loose eyeshadows you will have to watch out for fallout. Besides that they are easy to apply. They would also be suitable as eyeliners when applied with a mixing medium. You can find some great swatches over at Variolavera.

7 Shades of Brown… Shimmery Eyeshadows

All the eyeshadows below have great quality. Throughout they are very buttery and smooth, which makes them easy to apply. I don’t use the Catrice eyeshadow too often, but when I swatched it I remembered how nice it is. Sleek’s James Brown is another colour that doesn’t get enough love, because it is soo beautiful, yet neglected.

New In: Benecos Eyeshadow in Happy Hour

benecos_eyeshadow

Benecos – Natural Mono Eyeshadow in Happy Hour (£3.95/2g)

crueltyfree copy vegan copy organic copy

During a recent order at Ecco-Verde.co.uk I just couldn’t help myself and ordered the Benecos Natural Mono Eye Shadow in Happy Hour for £2.19. When it arrived, I got so excited and wanted to open it immediately. Unfortunately the lid was a bit stuck and when I managed to open it, I dipped my finger in it, as you can see in the picture above.

The colour is a nice mauve tone that actually can look kinda reddish depending on the light, a bit like a plum. The eyeshadow is very buttery and easy to apply. I did notice though when I used it with other colours that it kind of ‘disappeared’ and didn’t blend into the other colours. I am not sure if that was a only in combination with a particular eyeshadow or generally happens.

I love brown matte eyeshadows, one of my favourite ones is definitely the Artdeco one from the Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture Collection. I actually have several of the eyeshadows from the limited editions and they are all amazing! Like a Virgin from Too Faced is such a buttery lovely colour, very similar to the P2 one but the quality is soo much better. The MUA palette is very affordable and has a selection of matte eyeshadows with good quality for the price point.

  1. P2 – Matte dream eyeshadow in 180 taupe elegance
  2. Artdeco – Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture in 520 Brunesque
  3. Too Faced – Eye Love Eye Shadow Collection in Like Virgin
  4. Can you believe it? I did all the swatches and have no idea which eyeshadow I used here. Sorry!
  5. Sleek – Au Natural in Bark
  6. MUA Makeup Academy Professional – Ever After Matte Palette in Truffle

7 Shades of Blue… Eyeshadow

07shadesofblue_eyeshadow_01

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th August you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour blue. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve linked my previous posts for Green, Pink and Purple below. I’ve also posted 7 Shades of Blue… Eyeliner before.

I love blue eyeshadows and here are swatches of 7 shades that I find particularly intriguing. The first one is by Sugarpill, and to be honest, so far I’ve only used it as eyeliner, I will link a look below. It is a very bright neon blue with some sparkle in it. The blue shade from Sleek’s Sunset palette is one of my favourites when I want a blue highlight under my lower lash line. The same goes for P2’s loose eyeshadow in L.A.. Catrice’s eyeshadow pen from their Coolibri Limited Edition a few years ago is a great base for bright blue eye looks. Sleek has two great matte shades to offer, one is Ink and one is R&B, the latter a bit darker and more intense than Ink. And finally Barry M’s famous Dazzle Dust in Petrol Black. It becomes more intense with a black base underneath and all the blueish shimmer comes out better, see also the swatch I linked below.

7 Shades of Purple… Eyeshadow

7shadesofpurpleeyeshadow_01

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th July you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour purple. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve previously already showed my 7 favourite lipsticks. See also my previous post on 7 Shades of Green, my 7 Shades of Pink… Lipstick and 7 shades of Pink… Blushes.

  1. Rituals – 4 Color Eye Shadow: Amethyst Collection [2nd from top]
  2. P2 – Metal Eyes Eyeshadow in 060 Lilac Butterfly
  3. Gosh – Effect Powder in Butterfly
  4. Kiko – Colour Sphere 41 Violet Black Melange
  5. Sleek – Bliss in Barcelona [Vintage Romance]
  6. Essence – Loose pigment in 02 Alice had a vision again [Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2, LE]
  7. Sugarpill – Poison Plum

This was so hard, because I love purple eyeshadow and had way too many shades to choose from. But I went for a couple of different shades from matte to shimmery and from pale to very bright. I love the Amethyst Collection by Rituals and one of their colours had to join the selection. P2’s Metal Eyeshadow is a great colour for the corner of the eye or under the lower lashes when creating a purple look. Similarly, I usually use Butterfly under the lower lashes in a purple look or as a highlight in a more nude look. Violet Black Melange is a great crease colour for purple looks. It darkens up the crease and gives some depth. The same goes for Alice had a vision again. Bliss in Barcelona is an allrounder and Poison Plum is a classic purple shadow you shouldn’t miss in your collection.
