Beauty Favourites 2015: Face

During the summer I loved my Honeypie Minerals Foundation, which I purchased the full size of. In the colder months or for a night out I prefer my Rituals Gemstone Foundation. For liquid foundations I’ve been using Boots Botanics – All Bright Radiance Balm as a base for a couple of months now, it gives a nice glow to the skin.

To set my makeup I almost exclusively used MUA’s Pro Base Prime & Conceal Powder, which I actually bought for a Halloween look if I remember correctly. It does a great job though. I mix all the colours and apply it lightly and my makeup stays matte for a while.

A purchase on a whim turned out to be my favourite everyday blush: MUA’s Lolly. A long time favourite of mine, and unfortunately not available anymore, is Catrice’s Multi Colour Blush in Gone With the Wind [Hollywood Fabolous Fourties Limited Edition]. Last year I mentioned my Everyday Minerals’ blushes and they are still products I use on a regular basis.

I think in the last two years, a lot more products have found their way into my makeup routine. Not necessarily on a daily basis, but certainly when I feel like putting on a full face of makeup. When I never seemed to bother with Contouring and Highlighting in the past, I know have a couple of favourites for both categories.

I would say Beauty UK’s Baked Box Halo 3 is my No. 1 highlighter. I also really enjoy Topshop’s Glow Highlighter in Polish and Illamasqua’s Gleam in Mirage. For highlighters cream products work quite well for me. Not so much for contouring though. I have Illamasqua’s Cream Pigment in Hollow, but although the colour is great I just never really reach for it. Instead my current favourite is Makeup Revolution’s Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love, which I use as a contour shade. It is very pigmented and suitable for pale skin.

New In – Bits and Bobs #01

  1. Makeup Revolution – Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love (£1.00)
  2. Zoeva – Graphic Eyes + in Opulence (£5.50)
  3. LA Splash – Lip Couture Waterproof Liquid Lipstick in Ghoulish (£9.50)
  4. Collection – Work the Colour Matt Lip Butter in 01 Marshmallow Pink (£2.99)
  5. Sleek – Candy tint balm in 070 Jelly Bean (£6.49)

Ghoulish must be one of the most hyped matte lip creams in the beauty world just now. Supposedly it is a dupe for Lime Crime’s Cashmere, which I don’t own, but going by swatches I’ve seen they are very close. LA Splash describes the product as rich waterproof shades [that] will leave a velvety, matte finish that never transfers. (…) With its innovative formula that glides on as liquid and dries matte (…). It definitely dries down quickly and for a moment it feels a bit uncomfortable on the lips. After that it stays put all day long. When I swatched them on my hand I had to rub a lot to get the stain off with my regular makeup remover by Lush (9 to 5). In the swatch above I showed you MUA’s Tranquility next to Ghoulish so you can see how grey-purplish it is, whereas Tranquility is more of a nude colour. So far the only thing I don’t like about Ghoulish is the scent, it smells pretty strongly of alcohol. By the way, if you are interested in Ghoulish, make sure to check out OG Ghoulish as well and compare their swatches to see which one you want. The OG one I believe was first brought out in a limited edition.

Pink Marshmallow by Collection is a totally different concept, a matte lip butter. Sounds like it shouldn’t work but it does. The stick is very handy to apply the lipstick and feels a lot less drying than most matte lipsticks I’ve ever tried. While application it actually feels very soft on the lips before it dries down a bit. It doesn’t last as long as matte lip creams, but it is good enough during a day at work. I feel this is a great matte lip for everyday as it can be re-applied easily during the day. It is really cheap, which also explains why the lipstick bullet already fell out twice. As long as I remember that it is loose I can still use it without a problem, but it is slightly annoying.

Although Mocha Love is an eyeshadow, I use it to contour my face. It is super pigmented, therefore you have to make sure not to pick up too much product. It has a really great ashy tone though, which isn’t always easy to find in the drugstore, and for £1 only it gets my thumbs up.

The Sleek Candy tint balm are also a nice addition for everyday wear. As you can see in the swatch above they are very sheer and Jelly Bean has a slight orange tint. It is actually quite difficult to get a picture of it. 😉 The balm is very moisturising and glossy and can be easily applied on the go.

zoeva opulence

I’ve been eyeing Zoeva’s Graphic Liner in Opulence for ages. What a beautiful colour! As always the colour glides on and once dry stays in place. I absolutely love it!

7 Shades of Brown… Matte Eyeshadows

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 7th October you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour brown. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve linked my previous posts for Green, Pink and Purple and Blue below. I previously posted about my 7 shades of brown cheek products.

I love brown matte eyeshadows, one of my favourite ones is definitely the Artdeco one from the Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture Collection. I actually have several of the eyeshadows from the limited editions and they are all amazing! Like a Virgin from Too Faced is such a buttery lovely colour, very similar to the P2 one but the quality is soo much better. The MUA palette is very affordable and has a selection of matte eyeshadows with good quality for the price point.

  1. P2 – Matte dream eyeshadow in 180 taupe elegance
  2. Artdeco – Dita van Teese Classics and Art Couture in 520 Brunesque
  3. Too Faced – Eye Love Eye Shadow Collection in Like Virgin
  4. Can you believe it? I did all the swatches and have no idea which eyeshadow I used here. Sorry!
  5. Sleek – Au Natural in Bark
  6. MUA Makeup Academy Professional – Ever After Matte Palette in Truffle

7 Shades of Purple… Lipstick

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th July you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour purple. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. Hopefully I will be able to make another post on eyeshadows ad/or nail polishes. See also my previous post on 7 Shades of Green, my 7 Shades of Pink… Lipstick and 7 shades of Pink… Blushes.

  2. Essence – Long Lasting Lipstick in 09 Wear Berries
  3. Catrice – Velvet Matt Lipstick in C02 Of Royal Blood
  4. Sleek – Matte Me in 431 Fandango Purple
  5. MUA – Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Kooky
  6. Sleek – True Colour Lipstick in Exxxaggerate
  7. OCC – Metallic Lip Tar in Technopagan

I love purple lipstick and I think even my first lipstick ever was purple. 🙂 I don’t very often wear lipgloss (oups yes, a lipgloss sneaked into the lipsticks…) , but I really like this milky soft purple. My go to colour when I want an everyday suitable purple lip is definitely the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick, it is so easy to wear and touch up during the day. You might remember that you have seen the Catrice Of Royal Blood before in my pink lipsticks. First of all, you probably notice that I really like the colour and second of all, it is just that kinda shade that is in between being pink or purple. Fadango Purple is a great matte bright shade that lasts very well. Kooky is the same idea but a darker blue based shade. Exxxaggerate is another matte shade by Sleek which is a lot more vibrant than on the picture. Great for statement lips! And finally OCC’s Technopagan, an absolutely stunning metallic blue based purple that dries down semi-matte. I absolutely love this colours, but I admit I haven’t worn it very often yet, as it takes some effort to put on seamlessly and it wears off unevenly. What are your favourite purple shades?

7 Shades of Pink… Lipstick

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 8th June you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour pink. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. See also my previous post on 7 Shades of Green.

I certainly love pink lips, which is why I have a rather big collection of pink lipsticks. I tried to find 7 ones that I use the most. It seems I really like Catrice’s pink lipsticks as three of them found their way in my Top 7. All three of them were limited editions and are matt colours. Illamasqua and Sleek are also matte and both are very long lasting on the lips. Lastly I have a lip lacquer, again with a matt finish and OCC’s Yaoi, a metallic, shiny pink.

I am planning to post again this week my 7 shades of pink blush, so stay tuned!

New In: MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Tranquility

Makeup Academy – Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Tranquility (£3.00/6ml)

crueltyfree copy

What MUA says:

Smooch your way to red carpet glamour with MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers. Long – lasting and kiss proof, these intense formulas come in five rich, vampy shades. Encased in chic frosted glass packaging, these lacquers glide on with the ease of a gloss, drying in seconds into a matte velvety texture. They are the ultimate make-up bag must have.

What I say:

From left to right: Tranquility, Funk and Kooky

I really like the lip lacquers by MUA. I also have two more colours called Funk and Kooky. Yes, they are drying on the lips, but most matte lip colours are and for the price I think they are really good quality. You can buy them at Superdrug or online. Compared to the two Sleek Matte Me ones, I think the MUA ones are less drying on the lips and they do last longer. Tranquility is a great everyday shade that I like wearing to work.

Products used:

This look was actually inspired by Julina March. She posted a purple look on Instagram that I just absolutely loved (see below). Although my look turned out quite different, I am really pleased with it. When applying the eyeshadow I ended up going a lot darker than the look by Julina. Further, I do not have the same lip product she used, so I mixed two matte lip creams that come nowhere near the original shade. I am tempted to invest in Pretty Zombie Cosmetics Liquid lipsticks in 3witches and Purple poison.

Highlighter for pale skin

(2) Topshop – Glow Highlighter in Polish (£9.00)
(3) Alverde –  Rose Tinted Highlighter (2,99 €)
(4) Beauty UK – Baked Box Halo 3 (£3.99)
(5) Sleek – Face Contour Kit in Light (£6.49)

As you can see my collection of highlighters is still rather limited and there is only one natural product in here, the liquid highlighter by Alverde, which I love by the way. I would be keen to try some mineral highlighters at some point, but for now, let’s have a look at the ones I have.

Most of these are powder highlighters, which I find a bit easier to handle and build up. Nevertheless, the Topshop cream highlighter and the Alverde liquid highlighter are great products too. All the highlighters you can see in the picture above have a more pinkish undertone that I think usually works better on pale skin than golden highlighters. The Catrice product has the least pigmentation of all the highlighters shown above. My favourite product in here must be the Beauty UK one, it gives a really nice reflection on the face and still looking very natural.
