Beauty Favourites 2015: Face

During the summer I loved my Honeypie Minerals Foundation, which I purchased the full size of. In the colder months or for a night out I prefer my Rituals Gemstone Foundation. For liquid foundations I’ve been using Boots Botanics – All Bright Radiance Balm as a base for a couple of months now, it gives a nice glow to the skin.

To set my makeup I almost exclusively used MUA’s Pro Base Prime & Conceal Powder, which I actually bought for a Halloween look if I remember correctly. It does a great job though. I mix all the colours and apply it lightly and my makeup stays matte for a while.

A purchase on a whim turned out to be my favourite everyday blush: MUA’s Lolly. A long time favourite of mine, and unfortunately not available anymore, is Catrice’s Multi Colour Blush in Gone With the Wind [Hollywood Fabolous Fourties Limited Edition]. Last year I mentioned my Everyday Minerals’ blushes and they are still products I use on a regular basis.

I think in the last two years, a lot more products have found their way into my makeup routine. Not necessarily on a daily basis, but certainly when I feel like putting on a full face of makeup. When I never seemed to bother with Contouring and Highlighting in the past, I know have a couple of favourites for both categories.

I would say Beauty UK’s Baked Box Halo 3 is my No. 1 highlighter. I also really enjoy Topshop’s Glow Highlighter in Polish and Illamasqua’s Gleam in Mirage. For highlighters cream products work quite well for me. Not so much for contouring though. I have Illamasqua’s Cream Pigment in Hollow, but although the colour is great I just never really reach for it. Instead my current favourite is Makeup Revolution’s Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love, which I use as a contour shade. It is very pigmented and suitable for pale skin.

New In – Bits and Bobs #01

  1. Makeup Revolution – Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love (£1.00)
  2. Zoeva – Graphic Eyes + in Opulence (£5.50)
  3. LA Splash – Lip Couture Waterproof Liquid Lipstick in Ghoulish (£9.50)
  4. Collection – Work the Colour Matt Lip Butter in 01 Marshmallow Pink (£2.99)
  5. Sleek – Candy tint balm in 070 Jelly Bean (£6.49)

Ghoulish must be one of the most hyped matte lip creams in the beauty world just now. Supposedly it is a dupe for Lime Crime’s Cashmere, which I don’t own, but going by swatches I’ve seen they are very close. LA Splash describes the product as rich waterproof shades [that] will leave a velvety, matte finish that never transfers. (…) With its innovative formula that glides on as liquid and dries matte (…). It definitely dries down quickly and for a moment it feels a bit uncomfortable on the lips. After that it stays put all day long. When I swatched them on my hand I had to rub a lot to get the stain off with my regular makeup remover by Lush (9 to 5). In the swatch above I showed you MUA’s Tranquility next to Ghoulish so you can see how grey-purplish it is, whereas Tranquility is more of a nude colour. So far the only thing I don’t like about Ghoulish is the scent, it smells pretty strongly of alcohol. By the way, if you are interested in Ghoulish, make sure to check out OG Ghoulish as well and compare their swatches to see which one you want. The OG one I believe was first brought out in a limited edition.

Pink Marshmallow by Collection is a totally different concept, a matte lip butter. Sounds like it shouldn’t work but it does. The stick is very handy to apply the lipstick and feels a lot less drying than most matte lipsticks I’ve ever tried. While application it actually feels very soft on the lips before it dries down a bit. It doesn’t last as long as matte lip creams, but it is good enough during a day at work. I feel this is a great matte lip for everyday as it can be re-applied easily during the day. It is really cheap, which also explains why the lipstick bullet already fell out twice. As long as I remember that it is loose I can still use it without a problem, but it is slightly annoying.

Although Mocha Love is an eyeshadow, I use it to contour my face. It is super pigmented, therefore you have to make sure not to pick up too much product. It has a really great ashy tone though, which isn’t always easy to find in the drugstore, and for £1 only it gets my thumbs up.

The Sleek Candy tint balm are also a nice addition for everyday wear. As you can see in the swatch above they are very sheer and Jelly Bean has a slight orange tint. It is actually quite difficult to get a picture of it. 😉 The balm is very moisturising and glossy and can be easily applied on the go.

zoeva opulence

I’ve been eyeing Zoeva’s Graphic Liner in Opulence for ages. What a beautiful colour! As always the colour glides on and once dry stays in place. I absolutely love it!

7 Shades of Brown… Cheek Products

Steffi from Smoke & Diamonds started a blog series called 7 shades of… where bloggers present 7 shades of one colour in one category, e.g. eyeshadow, lipstick, nail polish and so on. Until the 7th October you still have time to participate in the current round where it is all about the colour brown. You can share your posts via InLinkz on her blog. I’ve linked my previous posts for Green, Pink and Purple and Blue below.

You might wonder about the selection below, as it includes an eyeshadow and a blush, but I use both of them for my cheeks to contour, therefore I thought this is totally appropriate. 🙂 Illamasqua, Barry M and Makeup Revolution are matte products that I really only use for contouring. Although the Physician’s Formula product is technically a bronzer, I do use it for contouring as well. The other two bronzers I only wear occassionally as I don’t do much bronzing, but they are lovely shades for that purpose!

  1. Sleek – Blush in Antique
  2. Illamasqua – Cream Pigment in Hollow
  3. Makeup Revolution – Mono Eyeshadow in Mocha Love
  4. Barry M – Chisel Cheeks in Medium Brown
  5. Physician’s Formula – Bronze Organics for Fair Skin
  6. 17 – Instant Glow in Pink Bronze Bronzing Rocks
  7. Too Faced – Glamour to Go: Dream Edition Bronzer

New In: Makeup Revolution Flawless Palette

Makeup Revolution – Ultra 32 Shade Eyeshadow Palette in Flawless (£8.00)

What Makeup Revolution says:

ULTRA 32 Eyeshadow palettes are the perfect professional eyeshadow go to palette. All you need in one handy collection palette. 32 shades in 1 palette with a great mix of shimmer and matte wearable and experimental shades to create any look and play with, for amazing performance and value!

What I say:

Overall I like the palette. It is a very handy one for everyday looks in my opinion. I am impressed by the buttery texture of some of the shadows. I would say that the matte ones are rather chalky and not as easy to work with, but the shimmery shades glide on like a dream and are very pigmented. They remind me a bit of my Too Faced eyeshadows, which are in a lot more expensive.

When I used them with my Concrete Minerals Electric Eye Primer they did crease after a few hours though. With my Too Faced Shadow Insurance they seem to work a bit better, but I still had some smudging by the end of the day.

For a drugstore palette I think this is certainly a good deal, and if you are new to makeup or on a budget, keep your eyes out. They have a big range of eyeshadows for every taste, from neutral to very bright and colourful. Some of their palettes are apparently dupes for the much hyped Urban Decay Naked Series (see links below). I will add an eye makeup that I created with this palette soon as well.
